The 273rd anniversary of the birth of Thomas Jefferson will be celebrated on Wednesday, April 13, 2016. As has been the case since the dedication of the Jefferson Memorial in 1943, the District of Columbia Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, in cooperation with the National Park Service of the U.S. Department of the Interior and the Military District of Washington, will sponsor a commemorative ceremony at 11:00 AM that day at the Jefferson Memorial, on the Tidal Basin in Washington.
The program will include a Joint Armed Services Color Guard, music by one of the service bands, a brief address, and the placing of wreaths by numerous officials including one from the President of the United States. Other lineage organizations with a link to Jefferson are invited to present wreaths and their colors. Compatriots are welcome. The half-hour event is free, and open to the public.
